The enchanting island of Mont Saint Michel with its medieval abbey rising above the landscape, lies along the Normandy coast. This mount and surrounding bay have been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and have plenty to explore while on a tour. Mont Saint Michel is home to a wealth of historical buildings, each offering unique historical insights into the origins of this sacred isle.
The story of Mont Saint Michel dates back to the 8th century, when the Bishop of Avranches, claimed that Archangel Michel requested him to set up a church on this site. With the settlement of the Benedictines in 966, a Romanesque style abbey was soon built and it became a key centre for pilgrimages and learning.
